Step 4: Adjust the Brake Pads
The brake pads should be parallel to the rim and sit about 1/16 to 1/8 inch away from the rim. Use a small Allen key to adjust the position of the brake pads. If the pads are rubbing against the rim, loosen the pad adjustment bolt and move the pad away from the rim. If there is too much clearance, move the pad closer to the rim. Once the position is correct, tighten the adjustment bolt.
Step 5: Tighten the Brake Cable
After adjusting the pads, it’s time to tighten the brake cable. Turn the barrel adjuster clockwise to increase the cable tension. Squeeze the brake lever a few times to test the braking action. Step 1: Inspect the Disc and Pads

Step 2: Loosen the Caliper Mounting Bolts
Using an Allen key, loosen the mounting bolts on the caliper. This will allow the caliper to float freely and self – align with the brake disc.
Step 3: Spin the Wheel and Center the Caliper
While spinning the wheel, gently squeeze the brake lever. The caliper will move into position over the brake disc. Hold the caliper in place while tightening the mounting bolts firmly. Make sure the caliper is centered and there is equal clearance on both sides of the disc.
Step 4: Adjust the Pad Clearance
Most disc brakes have a small adjustment screw on the caliper. Use a small Allen key to turn this screw and adjust the pad clearance. The pads should be close enough to the disc to provide good braking power but not so close that they rub against the disc when the brakes are not engaged. Spin the wheel to check for any rubbing. If there is rubbing, adjust the pad clearance accordingly.
Step 5: Bleed the Brakes (if necessary)
If your disc brakes are hydraulic, you may need to bleed them periodically to remove air from the system. This is a more advanced procedure that requires specific tools and knowledge. If you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, it’s best to take your e – bike to a professional mechanic.
